President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Governor Biodun Oyebanji on his win in Saturday’s Ekiti State governorship election.

The president praised the people of Ekiti State for their “peaceful and orderly behavior and for placing their trust in Oyebanji.”

Tinubu congratulated security agencies for maintaining law and order during the election, according to a statement issued on Sunday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

He urged the Independent National Electoral Commission to continue to improve the conduct of peaceful, free, fair, and credible elections in the run-up to the Osun governorship election in August and the general elections in 2027.

“With his overwhelming victory in the election, Oyebanji has emerged as the first governor in the history of Ekiti State to win re-election back-to-back,” the statement said.

The president emphasized that Oyebanji’s first term saw great progress in infrastructure, agriculture, youth employment, education, healthcare, and rural development under the BAO program.

According to him, the renewed mandate is “a clear vote of confidence in continuity, stability, and people-centered governance.”

Tinubu advised the governor to be magnanimous in victory and to bring all stakeholders along as he builds on his accomplishments over the next four years.

He also praised other candidates who ran in the election, saying it was now time for them to back the governor for the sake of Ekiti State.

“The President also commends all those who contested the election with the governor for exercising their democratic rights, saying it is now time to rally round Oyebanji in the task of taking Ekiti to the next level of governance,” the statement added.

INEC on Sunday declared Oyebanji of the All Progressives Congress as the winner of the Ekiti State governorship poll.

The governor was re-elected with 319,224 votes, defeating his closest challengers in the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, Olumayokun Oluyede, and the African Democratic Congress, Dare Bejide, throughout the state’s 16 local governments.

Tinubu restated the federal government’s commitment to working with the Ekiti State government to provide additional democratic dividends under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

He also prayed for wisdom, strength, and health for the governor as he continues to serve the people of Ekiti State.
