The Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) has distanced itself from a list of supposed candidates for Imo, Abia, and Anambra state elections that is now circulating on social media, calling it fraudulent and unapproved.

In a statement issued on Friday by its National Secretary, Ikenna Enekweizu, the party advised members and the general public to dismiss the lists, claiming that they did not come from the party’s national headquarters.

The NDC maintained that it had previously submitted an authentic list of candidates who would fly the party’s flag in the impacted states to the Independent National Electoral Commission using the routes specified in the Electoral Act.

“The general public, especially members of the NDC in Imo, Abia, Anambra, and other affected states, are hereby urged to disregard the lists of candidates widely circulating on social media as the authentic lists of our party’s candidates from the aforementioned states.

“The said lists are fake and did not emanate from the party headquarters,” the statement partly read.

Enekweizu claimed that the documents were being shared by “mischief makers” who wanted to cause confusion and divert the party from its efforts.

According to him, the NDC has begun investigations to discover the origin of the alleged lists and how the information was disseminated.

“Such lists in circulation are being peddled by mischief makers and those who do not wish the party well.

“However, the party is investigating the sources of such fabrications and leakages, as they are desperate attempts to cause ill will and distractions within the party,” he said.

The party reminded its members of its commitment to internal cohesion as well as its overarching goal of presenting Nigerians with an alternative political platform.
