Trump slams critics as ‘fools’ after Iran peace deal

United States President Donald Trump has dismissed critics of his agreement with Iran, describing them as “fools” following the signing of a landmark Iran peace deal.

The remarks came as Trump and Iranian officials separately signed the accord aimed at ending the Middle East conflict and restoring stability in the Strait of Hormuz, a key global oil shipping route.

Oil prices fell after news of the agreement, with markets reacting to expectations that shipping routes would reopen following months of disruption linked to the conflict.

The deal was signed in Paris at a ceremony hosted by French President Emmanuel Macron, who described the agreement as a step towards peace and a 60-day framework for broader negotiations on nuclear and regional security issues.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian also signed the agreement, with officials confirming that implementation talks will now begin, focusing on reopening the Strait of Hormuz and easing sanctions.

Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who helped mediate the talks, said the agreement would take immediate effect and pave the way for technical negotiations in Switzerland.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Abbas Araghchi confirmed that the implementation phase would begin, while UN nuclear watchdog chief Rafael Grossi said his agency was prepared to oversee compliance steps linked to Iran’s nuclear programme.

Despite the breakthrough, questions remain over enforcement details, sanctions relief, and the long-term scope of Iran’s missile and nuclear programmes.

Some critics in the United States have described the deal as a major foreign policy concession, while supporters argue it could stabilise energy markets and reduce tensions in the region.
