The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the restoration of six State House of Assembly constituencies in Delta State ahead of the 2027 General Election, following court judgments directing the reinstatement of previously suppressed constituencies.
This was announced in a circular released by the electoral body on Wednesday.
The restored constituencies in Delta State are Aniocha North II, Ika North East II, Sapele II, Ethiope West II, Warri South West II, and Warri North II.
INEC said political parties will conduct primaries in the restored constituencies between June 16 and June 25, 2026, to facilitate the nomination of candidates for the 2027 elections.
The electoral umpire also announced the restoration of constituencies in Benue, Jigawa, and Kogi States, in compliance with the court order.
The development is expected to have significant political implications, particularly in Delta State, where the restoration of Warri South West II and Warri North II follows recent constituency and ward delineation controversies in the Warri Federal Constituency.
There have been rising tensions between the Ijaws and Itsekiri ethnic groups over the delineation of constiruency in the state.
