Togo has announced a new visa-free entry policy for citizens of all African countries, allowing short stays of up to 30 days without a visa.

The Togolese Ministry of Security announced on Tuesday, via an official statement posted on its X account, that the policy had been unveiled.

The government said the move is aimed at strengthening African integration, improving mobility across the continent, and positioning Togo as a hub for cooperation and opportunity in Africa.

Under the new arrangement, African nationals holding valid passports can now enter Togo without obtaining a visa in advance for visits lasting up to 30 days.

The statement read: “Togo takes a historic step in strengthening African integration. Henceforth, all nationals of African states holding a valid national passport may enter Togolese territory without a visa, for a stay of up to 30 days.

“Through this major reform, the President of the Council reaffirms his commitment to making Togo a space of openness, mobility, opportunities, and cooperation at the heart of the African continent.”

Despite the visa waiver, travellers are still required to complete a travel declaration through the official government platform at least 24 hours before arrival to obtain a travel slip.

The Togolese government said the decision reflects its commitment to regional integration and closer ties among African nations.

The development follows similar visa-free policies introduced by Rwanda, which has long promoted open travel for African citizens.

In response to Rwanda’s policy, the Nigerian government also recently began implementing a 30-day visa exemption for Rwandan nationals visiting Nigeria.
