Former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, has described the Opposition Summit held in Ibadan over the weekend as a gathering of recycled failures.

The meeting was attended by members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party, and African Democratic Congress (ADC), among others.

Some notable figures present included former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, former presidential candidate Peter Obi, former Governor of Kano State Rabiu Kwankwaso, PDP National Chairman Kabiru Turaki, and former Minister Rauf Aregbesola, among others.

Reacting, Sowore stated that he declined an invitation to represent his party at the summit because Nigerians deserve a genuine alternative.

“There is no need to pretend that the same men (and a few women) who held Nigeria to ransom for years, presiding over stagnation, corruption, and systemic decay, can suddenly reinvent themselves as champions of progress or defenders of the people. Not all Nigerians are suffering from amnesia,” he shared on X.

He stated that AAC would not be part of any charade designed to recycle failed political actors under the guise of opposition.

He said the party is committed to presenting a formidable, people-driven alternative, one rooted in integrity, accountability, and genuine transformation.

“We will mobilise Nigerians across the country to rally behind a credible vision that rejects the decadence and deception represented by both the APC and their opportunistic counterparts in the ADC, PDP, Labour Party, and elsewhere.

“Nigeria does not need a rearrangement of the same broken pieces; it needs a complete break from the past,” Sowore said.
