The Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has stated that candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for upcoming elections will be selected based on merit and loyalty to the party.

Aiyedatiwa also issued a warning to aspirants against desperation and “do-or-die” politics ahead of the party’s primaries scheduled for next month.

The governor stated this when he spoke on Friday at the APC Central Senatorial District stakeholders’ meeting held at the Akure Township Hall.

He mentioned that political activities in the state had already gathered momentum, noting that the party’s electoral process would begin with the collection of expressions of interest and nomination forms, followed by screening and appeals where necessary.

“It is not a do-or-die affair. If you are not chosen, do not rock the boat. Remain in the party. One day, an opportunity will come.

“We will use merit, loyalty, and winnability to pick APC candidates at the forthcoming primary of our party,” he said.

Aiyedatiwa stated that the party would use either direct primaries or consensus arrangements, depending on what is ultimately decided upon.

He advised hopefuls to remain calm and follow party decisions, emphasizing the need for discipline and unity for the APC’s success.

Babatunde Kolawole, APC State Chairman, also spoke, reaffirming the party’s supremacy and describing the governor as the party’s leader in the state.

Kolawole stated that the State Working Committee remained totally committed to the governor and advised aspirants to accept party outcomes with maturity.

He also reiterated his party’s support for President Bola Tinubu.
