The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has described as false a circulating photograph purporting to show a newly launched N5,000 currency.
The image has gone viral on social media, with individuals claiming that the CBN had published a sample of an N5,000 note showing President Bola Tinubu.
The report triggered a flurry of online responses, with many users questioning the veracity of the alleged new currency design.
However, the apex bank denied the story in a message on its official X (previously Twitter) feed, saying,
“This content is fake. Let the public be guided.
In 2025, the CBN disputed rumors that it introduced N5,000 and N10,000 banknotes to ease cash transactions, calling the report bogus.
