The Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Ishaq Oloyede, has called on candidates and parents to challenge suspected admission bias if they are confident in their UTME scores.
Speaking during an interview with Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Oloyede said qualified candidates who are denied admission into their preferred institutions should formally protest through the board’s system.
He emphasised that the Central Admission Processing System (CAPS) ensures transparency and fairness, making it easier to track and question irregularities.
According to him, candidates who believe they meet the admission requirements should not remain silent. He stressed that CAPS has simplified the process and allows JAMB to investigate complaints effectively.
Oloyede also criticised the growing reliance on illegal admission practices, noting that some parents assume manipulation is the only path to securing admission.
He maintained that JAMB does not interfere in admission decisions, adding that some candidates have gained admission without any external influence after raising concerns.
On direct entry admissions, the registrar said the board has tightened verification processes, reducing fraud across programmes such as JUPEB and IJMB.
He revealed that since 2023, the number of fraudulent applications has declined significantly, with stricter checks making it increasingly difficult to forge academic results.
