Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Disu, has ordered a large-scale deployment of security personnel to Plateau State following deadly attacks in Jos.
The directive comes after violence in Angwan Rukuba, located in Jos North Local Government Area, where several residents were killed.
In a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), Anthony Placid, the IGP strongly condemned the killings, describing them as tragic and unacceptable.
Disu also extended condolences to the Plateau State Government and families affected by the attacks.
As part of the response, the IGP had earlier deployed the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Operations, Umar Shehu Nadada, to the state to assess the situation and coordinate security efforts.
The police said additional tactical teams, including Police Mobile Force units and intelligence operatives, have now been deployed alongside other security agencies to restore order and prevent further violence.
According to the statement, the intensified operations will remain in place until peace is fully restored across the state.
The IGP also directed all operational commanders to ensure visible policing and actively engage with communities considered vulnerable.
Residents were urged to remain calm, stay vigilant, and cooperate with security agencies. Disu warned against taking the law into their own hands and encouraged citizens to report suspicious activities promptly.
Authorities say efforts are ongoing to identify and arrest those responsible for the attacks.
