A fire outbreak on Tuesday morning razed the Plateau State College of Health Technology in the Zawan community, Jos South LGA.

In an interview with our correspondent in Jos, the college provost, Atangs Ishaku, confirmed the incident reduced the medical laboratory section to ashes.

“Yes, it’s true, but we don’t know what really caused the fire. We’re still assessing the situation,” he said.

Ishaku explained that the inferno was reported to him around 12 am, prompting him to immediately contact the fire service.

“I first called the Federal Fire Service, but they said they had a problem with their vehicle. I then called another team, and they came to the institution, but by the time they arrived, the fire had already spread extensively,” he added.

The spokesman for the Federal Fire Service in Plateau State, Ikibe Nanya Dul, could not be reached as her phone was switched off.

The inferno has left students in despair, with many expressing frustration and disappointment.

“This is a huge loss for us. We’ve lost valuable equipment and resources that were crucial to our studies,” said a distraught student, Mathew Gyang.

Another student, Sarah John, had similar concerns: “It’s quite awful. We’re not sure how we’ll deal with the loss of our laboratory equipment and facilities. “The college must take immediate action to address this.”

The source of the fire remains unknown, and the college has yet to determine the entire extent of the damage. The incident has prompted questions about the institution’s safety standards and emergency readiness.

As the campus community deals with the aftermath, students and faculty are pushing for a thorough inquiry and stronger measures to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
