Residents of the Federal Capital Territory will face a 12-hour FCT movement restriction today Saturday as security agencies tighten measures ahead of the Area Council Elections.
The Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, Miller G. Dantawaye, announced that movement across the territory will be restricted from 6am to 6pm on Saturday, 21 February 2026.
According to a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, Josephine Adeh, the directive is aimed at ensuring adequate security and the smooth conduct of the polls.
The FCT movement restriction will apply to all residents. However, essential service providers and duly accredited election officials will be exempted.
Security agencies are expected to mount checkpoints and enforce compliance across key entry and exit points within the territory.
The FCT Police Command urged residents to remain peaceful and law abiding throughout the electoral process.
The command also called on members of the public to report suspicious persons or activities through its emergency lines: 08032003913 and 08061581938.
Police authorities said the restriction is part of efforts to guarantee a safe, free and credible election across the six area councils.
Residents have been advised to plan their movements accordingly and comply fully with security directives during the restriction period.
