The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has announced a major security deployment ahead of Saturday’s FCT council election, confirming the mobilisation of multiple security agencies across Abuja.

The election, scheduled for 21 February 2026, will see residents vote across the six area councils of the Federal Capital Territory.

In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, the Command said the deployment forms part of a comprehensive operational order designed to ensure a peaceful and credible poll.

Security personnel drawn from the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Air Force, Nigerian Navy, Department of State Services, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps will be deployed to polling units and collation centres.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Miller G. Dantawaye, directed officers to maintain professionalism and impartiality throughout the exercise.

He charged personnel to remain vigilant, courteous, and respectful of citizens’ rights while guaranteeing a free and fair electoral process.

The Command also announced a restriction of movement across the FCT between 6:00am and 6:00pm on election day.

Only essential service providers and duly accredited election officials will be exempt.

Residents have been urged to comply fully with security guidelines and cooperate with officers on duty.

The police reassured voters that adequate measures are in place to protect lives and property, encouraging citizens to turn out peacefully and without fear.

Members of the public are advised to report suspicious activities through the emergency numbers: 08032003913 and 08061581938.

With heightened security across Abuja, authorities say they are determined to deliver a calm and orderly FCT council election.
