The Presidency has dismissed speculation about President Bola Tinubu’s health, confirming he is “hale and hearty” and carrying on with his state visit to Türkiye as scheduled.
In an update on Tuesday, the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare, said Tinubu moved straight from a ceremonial welcome in Ankara into high-level bilateral talks with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and senior government officials.
According to the Presidency, the meetings are aimed at strengthening diplomatic ties and expanding cooperation in key areas, including defence and security, trade and investment, energy, and broader economic development.
The visit, officials say, reflects Nigeria’s renewed diplomatic push under Tinubu and the growing strategic relationship between Abuja and Ankara.
Addressing online chatter about the President’s well-being, Presidential Spokesperson Bayo Onanuga clarified that Tinubu merely lost his balance briefly after stepping on an object.
“The President stepped on a metal on the floor, which made him lose his balance,” Onanuga explained, stressing that it was “a mere stumble, not a fall”.
He added that the incident was being exaggerated by those seeking to stir mischief, assuring Nigerians that the President remains fit, focused, and fully engaged in his official duties.
The Presidency urged the public to ignore attempts to sensationalise the episode, noting that the state visit is progressing smoothly and productively.
