The Lagos State Police Command has refuted widespread claims of power abuse against CSP Ayanwale Ayodeji, the Divisional Police Officer of Mushin’s Olosan Police Station.

The controversy began earlier on Tuesday when X user Akin Akinwale, who tweets as #mrlurvy, said that the DPO was intimidating his friend.

Akinwale stated that after his friend “brushed” a car belonging to the DPO’s partner, the DPO vowed to make sure the driver “rots in jail.”

The viral post aroused considerable indignation, prompting an instant response from the Lagos State Command spokeswoman, SP Abimbola Adebisi, and the Police Complaint Response Unit.

While the Police CRU stated that efforts to reach an amicable resolution between the two parties at the police station were futile, and the DPO “has intervened to see if there can be an alternative resolution to the dispute,” the spokesperson confirmed that the Command was investigating the complaint.

Adebisi provided an update on Tuesday, describing the viral tweet as “malicious and misleading” and admitting that the DPO had no personal involvement in the issue until the claims arose online.

“Contrary to the claim, the DPO never threatened to jail the said ‘friend’ or made any statement; in fact, both parties never met with the DPO before the tweet.

“The malicious and misleading tweet has unfairly damaged the reputation of the DPO and the Command,” she wrote.

Adebisi revealed that the collision involved a parked vehicle for sale. A friend of the complainant offered ₦30,000 to cover the damage.

However, the automobile owner, identified as a lawyer, declined and demanded ₦500,000 for repairs.

She added, “The said ‘friend’ brushed against a car that was parked for sale. He offered the sum of ₦30,000 for repairs; however, the car owner declined, stating that the type of repair proposed would reduce the value of the vehicle and amount to a loss on his part.

“The car owner, who is a lawyer, demanded the sum of ₦500,000 for repairs and subsequently indicated his intention to pursue the matter in court, as both parties could not reach an agreement.”
