Chris Okafor, senior pastor of Mountain of Liberation and Miracles Ministries, has handed himself over to police after being accused of multiple rapes and other offenses that could disrupt public order, according to the Lagos State Police Command.

The case has apparently been turned over to Sylvester Alabi, the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 2.

The development comes after Okafor did not respond to a police invitation on Monday, despite being invited by the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, on Sunday to discuss the charges.

In an interview with TVC on Wednesday, Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, stated, “When he was invited, he got to us through his lawyer that he would be appearing on Monday. So, on Monday, we waited for him. We didn’t see him, and I directed that he should be arrested.

“Subsequently, he showed up yesterday (Tuesday). Yes, he showed up yesterday.”

Jimoh also stated that the matter had been transferred to Zone 2 for further investigation.

“We later learned that the same matter had been opened at the Zone 2 headquarters with the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 2, which I needed to verify, and I verified the same.

“And he told me the matter has been investigated under his command for about three weeks now.

“So, the AIG occupies a higher office than mine as a commander and is my immediate supervisor since he’s into the matter. So, we handed the matter back to the zone,” he explained.

Speaking on complaints from alleged victims, the CP said, “Social media has become a veritable space for people to lodge their complaints. We no longer wait for people to come and see the matter before we act in public interest, because if we don’t, the conduct can lead to a breakdown of law and order.”

The controversy began in mid-December 2025, when several allegations against Okafor surfaced online.

Doris Ogala, a Nollywood actress, accused the pastor of having a long-term sexual relationship dating back to 2017, alleging that he breached vows of marriage, shared graphic content, and contributed to the breakdown of her previous marriage.

In response to the rising public criticism, Okafor reportedly addressed his congregation on December 28th, 2025, apologizing for previous “mistakes” and kneeling at the pulpit to seek forgiveness.

According to reports, the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria is exploring disciplinary action against him, and the pastor has stepped aside from his pastoral duties while the inquiry continues.

The Lagos State Police Command also informed everyone that appropriate security had been given for the claimed victims, and investigations at SCID, Panti, and Zone 2 were still proceeding.
