The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has picked an all-Cameroonian match officials squad for Nigeria’s AFCON 2025 Round of 16 match versus Mozambique.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the Super Eagles and Mambas will face off in the knockout round on Monday at Morocco’s Complexe Sportif de Fès.
The match will be officiated by center referee Abdou Abdel Mefire, 29, who is the tournament’s youngest official.
Despite his age, Mefire has demonstrated maturity and poise on the European scene.
He recently officiated the intense group-stage match between hosts Morocco and Mali.
His handling of crucial occurrences in that match, including VAR-reviewed decisions, drew acclaim for coolness and accuracy. Elvis Guy Noupue will serve as the first assistant referee for the match.
Noupue is a veteran official who has handled FIFA World Cup matches and is still regarded as one of Cameroon’s most reliable referees.
Carine Atezambong Fomo, a respected female official with extensive experience in top-tier CAF competitions, serves as the second assistant referee.
Fomo has overseen significant continental events, including high-profile championships, and is well-known for his steadiness and professionalism.
The Cameroonian officiating squad, which combines youthful energy and seasoned competence, is anticipated to maintain justice and discipline.
The nomination demonstrates CAF’s belief in Cameroon’s officiating credentials for a tight and decisive AFCON 2025 knockout match.
