A fire outbreak on Wednesday razed several shops in a storey building beside the Ikotun Roundabout area of Lagos State.

Chronicle NG gathered that the shops comprise electronics worth millions of naira.

The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, however, acknowledged the occurrence in a statement issued by its Controller General, Margret Adeseye, on Thursday.

She stated that the agency received the distress call about 12:22 a.m., and firemen arrived on the site around 12:32 a.m.

The statement partly read, “It is a fire involving a storey building shopping complex consisting of 24 shops of varying sizes. The affected shops and their contents were severely damaged by fire.

“One class A foam branch from Fire Eagle C12 (LFS 89LA), Enigbo, supplemented with water from FFL 008 (LFS 69LA), Isolo, and FFL 001 (LFS 62LA), Ijegun, was deployed to combat the fire.”

She added that a squad of police officers from the Ikotun Division was also on the scene to keep order while firefighting efforts were underway.

The fire service reported that the blaze was successfully suppressed and brought under control, with no casualties.

According to Adeseye, the suspected cause of the incident was an electrical surge caused by negligence.

The event occurred less than 72 hours after a fire destroyed a part of Arena Market in Oshodi’s Bolade neighborhood.

This comes as emergency personnel were still on the site of the Great Nigeria Insurance Plaza, which was destroyed by fire on Wednesday, December 24.
