A part of a private rice mill in the Birnin Kebbi metropolis collapsed, killing one employee and trapping five others under the facility’s metal wreckage.

After receiving the information, the Kebbi State Deputy Governor visited the scene and ordered immediate rescue attempts, which are still underway, to free the five trapped people.

The Kebbi State Government has sent its heartfelt condolences to the management and employees of NIA-AGRI following the partial collapse of a piece of its rice mill in the state capital.

Deputy Governor Senator Umar Abubakar Tafida, who led a high-level team on an on-the-spot assessment visit to the plant on Tuesday evening, stated that the purpose of the visit was to determine the extent of the damage and monitor the emergency response.

Tragically, the project engineer notified the delegation on-site that the event had resulted in at least one fatality. It was also claimed that five more people remained buried under the rubble at the time of the visit, with frantic rescue efforts underway.

A team of State Fire Service and Government Emergency Response workers has been working tirelessly to find and rescue the trapped workers.

The cause of the collapse has yet to be determined. The Deputy Governor stated that a full investigation would be started once the rescue process was over.

The Kebbi State Government has committed to continue assisting the rescue effort until all impacted individuals have been located.

Meanwhile, as of today, the fate of the five stranded individuals remains unknown.
