Salah in Liverpool’s squad against Brighton

Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah has been included in the lineup for Saturday’s Premier League game against Brighton following constructive discussions with head coach Arne Slot on Friday.

The decision is seen as being made by Slot with the intention of prioritizing the club’s best interests, especially with several players sidelined due to injury.

Unresolved issues persist, and Liverpool, along with Salah’s agent, Ramy Abbas, will continue to address these while the player participates in the Africa Cup of Nations.

Salah, 33, was omitted from the traveling team for Liverpool’s Champions League match against Inter Milan on Tuesday after stating that his relationship with Slot had deteriorated and that he had been “thrown under the bus.”

The reaction occurred at Elland Road after Liverpool’s 3-3 tie with Leeds, where the forward remained on the bench for the third consecutive match.

In the interview, Salah mentioned that the game on Saturday would serve as a farewell to Anfield and stated that he had asked his mother to come.

In his pre-game press conference earlier on Friday, Slot stated there were “no reasons to want Mohamed Salah to leave” the club.

Regarding the future of the Egyptian, who signed a new two-year deal in April, Slot mentioned, “I will talk to Mo.” The result of that discussion dictates how everything will appear.

Liverpool will play against Brighton at Anfield at 15:00 GMT on Saturday as they aim to build on two consecutive league draws.

Salah, with 250 goals in 420 appearances for the Reds, has not played off the bench in two of Liverpool’s last three Premier League matches.

He most recently played as a substitute in the 1-1 draw against Sunderland on 3 December, and his last starting appearance was on 26 November in the Champions League loss to PSV Eindhoven.

Due to Cody Gakpo being out with a muscle injury and Alexander Isak dealing with a knock, Liverpool lacks attacking alternatives for Saturday.

“Following the Sunderland match, there were numerous discussions among his agents and ours, as well as between him and myself,” Slot stated.

Salah is scheduled to leave for the Africa Cup of Nations on Monday and, based on how far Egypt progresses in the tournament, may not come back to Merseyside until after the final on January 18.

He might miss as many as eight matches for Liverpool if Egypt makes it to the final in Morocco.

Salah has netted five goals in 18 matches in the Premier League and Champions League this season.
