The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has issued a final 14-day grace period for property owners in Abuja’s highbrow districts, Asokoro, Maitama, Garki, and Wuse to pay a N5 million penalty for violating approved land use purposes.

In a statement released on Sunday by his aide, Lere Olayinka, Wike directed all affected property owners to settle the fines between November 11 and November 25, 2025, or risk enforcement action by the FCT Administration.

According to the statement, defaulters who pay the N5 million fee, along with other applicable charges for land use change or conversion, will be issued new title documents—including Statutory Rights of Occupancy and Certificates of Occupancy—with a fresh 99-year term.

However, properties whose titles were previously revoked for non-development or non-payment of ground rent are not eligible for this consideration.

The grace period follows Wike’s earlier directive in September, which imposed a N5 million fine and a 7.5 per cent charge on the Assessed Capital Value of properties converted without official approval. The ministry had also published a list of 374 violators at the time.

The affected properties are located on Gana Street and Usuma Street in Maitama, Yakubu Gowon Crescent in Asokoro, Aminu Kano and Adetokunbo Ademola Crescents in Wuse II, and several streets in Garki I and II, including Ladoke Akintola Boulevard, Gimbiya, Onitsha, and Ilorin Street.

Wike’s office warned that failure to comply within the 14-day deadline will attract enforcement actions by the administration.
