The Federal High Court in Abuja set November 20 for the delivering of judgment in the terrorist case filed against Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB.
Justice James Omotosho announced the date while deciding on the case after Kanu failed to launch his defense, having exhausted the court’s six-day deadline to submit his case.
The judge said that because Kanu did not take advantage of the opportunity to defend himself, he could not claim that his constitutionally given right to a fair hearing had been violated.
Meanwhile, Kanu filed a request on Friday challenging his conviction, claiming that terrorism is no longer a crime in Nigeria.
He claimed that the prior Terrorism Prevention and Prohibition Act had been repealed, and hence there were no legal charges against him.
Kanu insisted that there was no case against him and asked the court to dismiss the charges and let him go home.
