An unknown number of people were reportedly trapped after a building collapsed in Lagos in the early hours of Monday.
This was revealed in the situation report issued by Margaret Adeseye, Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service.
The impacted building is a two-story structure located at 54 Cole Street, near the Cemetery Bus Stop in Lagos’ Oyingbo neighborhood.
Adeseye, who confirmed the event, stated that the Sari-Iganmu Fire Station team was quickly rushed to the area after receiving a distress call about 12:20 a.m. on Monday.
The organization confirmed that the structure, which had previously displayed signs of distress, collapsed while inhabitants remained inside.
“It is an ongoing rescue involving an existing two-story building, which has reportedly been marked in distress before collapsing on the occupants,” the statement said.
So far, 15 individuals, including 7 men, 4 women, and 4 children, have been rescued with varied degrees of injuries and transferred to the Federal Medical Centre in Ebute-Metta and General Hospital, Odan, on Lagos Island.
