The FCT Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has deployed 4,500 personnel to ensure a hitch-free 65th Independence Day celebration in Abuja and environs.

According to a statement released on Monday by the FCT command spokesperson, Monica Ojobi, the FCT Commandant, Olusola Odumosu, directed the deployment to maintain adequate FCT surveillance.

Odumosu stated that the deployment was made to protect the safety of people and property, as well as all Critical National Assets and Infrastructure (CNAI) before, during, and after the celebration.

According to Ojobi, the officers and men were selected from the corps’ various specialized departments and groups, including the Female Strike Force, Arms Squad, Operation Adakasu, Chemical Biological Radiological Nuclear Explosives (CBRNE), and others.

“Black spots like uncompleted buildings that harbor criminals are also covered to avert security breaches,” he said.

Odumosu directed all area commanders and divisional officers to ensure their various area councils’ presence is felt to avoid security hitches.

“All hands must be on deck; I will not tolerate any form of breaches, so therefore ensure you deploy your personnel adequately,” he said.

The FCT commander also urged all officers to be professional and collaborate with other security services.

He also tasked them with following the rules of engagement, emphasizing that harassment, intimidation, or accidental discharge would not be tolerated.

Odumosu asked locals to remain cautious and report any suspicious movements, whether individual or group, to the nearest security agency.

The commandant greeted all FCT residents with a pleasant 65th Independence Day celebration and encouraged them to continue to believe in Nigeria and pray for the country’s well-being.

Nigeria became independent from British colonial authority on October 1, 1960.

This year’s occasion is titled “Nigeria @ 65: All Hands on Deck for a Greater Nation,” and celebrations have begun with prayers in mosques and churches.
