Less than two months after a horrific flood struck Adamawa State, killing over 30 people, another flood has wreaked havoc in the state, leaving dozens of households homeless.

The rain, which was forecasted by the federal government weather forecast service last Friday, began about 4 a.m. on Tuesday and continued until 12 p.m.

Several areas of the state capital, worship centers, residences, and commercial properties were flooded.

Residents in Damilu, which is located along the airport route, were trying to save their family members after their properties were demolished by the over 6-hour storm.

In Jambutu, Bachure, Runde, and Shinko, all in the Yola-North local government area, thousands of family members were found squatting along the roadside.

Speaking to the press on Tuesday, the executive secretary of the Adamawa State Emergency Management Agency (ADSEMA), Dr. Celine Laori, said that the flood is devastating, with thousands of families rendered homeless.

“So far, there is no life lost recorded. My office, the police, the fire service, and other security agencies are all carrying out rescue operations now in those affected areas,” she said.

According to a statement issued by the Adamawa police command, spokesman SP Suleiman Nguroje stated that the command has dispatched maritime police to conduct rescue operations in the affected regions.

“The Commissioner of Police, CP Dankombo Morris, has personally visited some flood-affected areas of Limiwa, Rumde, Shinko, Jambutu, and others to assess the situation for necessary assistance.

“Members of the public in the affected areas are advised to remain calm, avoid flooded zones, and ensure the safety of their families and property.”

The Command told the public that it was committed to protecting lives and property during and after the flood.
