Real Madrid began their 2025/26 LaLiga campaign with a 1-0 victory over CA Osasuna at the Santiago Bernabéu on Tuesday night, extending their unbeaten run in opening fixtures to 17 consecutive seasons.

Kylian Mbappé scored the only goal of the match from the penalty spot in the 50th minute after Juan Cruz brought him down in the box. The French forward made no mistake, sending Sergio Herrera the wrong way to secure all three points.

The result also means Los Blancos are now unbeaten in 21 consecutive LaLiga matches against Osasuna.

Despite the win, it was a largely scrappy performance from Xabi Alonso’s side, who were without Antonio Rüdiger (suspension), as well as Jude Bellingham, Endrick and Eduardo Camavinga through injury.

Real Madrid started with intensity, dominating possession with 54 passes inside the opening three minutes compared to Osasuna’s six. However, despite their control, clear chances were limited.

A dazzling solo run by Mbappé was cut short by a strong challenge from Enzo Boyomo, while long-range efforts from Dean Huijsen and Éder Militão forced Herrera into saves. Vinícius Júnior came closest in the first half but dragged his 38th-minute shot wide, summing up Madrid’s frustration before the break.

Osasuna briefly threatened after halftime, with Abel Bretones nearly equalising on 63 minutes following a slick move, but Real soon regained control. The visitors, however, continued to press until they were reduced to 10 men in stoppage time, ending any hopes of a late comeback.

Opta stats showed that Real Madrid enjoyed 79% possession but struggled to convert their dominance into goals. Former Real man Víctor Muñoz stood out for Osasuna, though it wasn’t enough to change the outcome.

The win ensures Real Madrid keep pace with rivals Barcelona, who had already beaten Mallorca on opening day.
