The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) has congratulated rising British-Nigerian heavyweight boxer Moses Itauma on his recent triumph in the ring.

In a statement issued on Sunday by Gabriel Odu of the Commission’s Media, Public Relations, and Protocols Unit, Itauma’s recent triumph was regarded as a reflection of the discipline, resilience, and quality for which Nigerians are known around the world.

Itauma was born in Kežmarok, Slovakia, to a Nigerian father and a Slovak mother. He eventually relocated to England and has since established himself as one of the sport’s top prospects.

NiDCOM stated that his accomplishment inspires not only Nigerians in the diaspora but also future athletes aiming for greatness.

The statement read in parts, “His latest success is a testament to his discipline and resilience, qualities that reflect the excellence Nigerians around the world are known for.

“Moses’ achievement is a source of inspiration not only to the Nigerian community in the diaspora but also to young athletes everywhere aspiring to greatness.

“NiDCOM celebrates this milestone with Moses Itauma and looks forward to witnessing his continued growth and success on the global stage.

“Congratulations, Moses — your victory makes Nigerians everywhere proud.”

Chronicle NG reports that on Saturday night in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, the 20-year-old Itauma knocked out seasoned veteran Dillian Whyte in just 119 seconds with a brutal first-round knockout during a high-profile heavyweight clash hosted at the ANB Arena.

The main event saw Itauma defend his WBA International and WBO Inter-Continental heavyweight belts while also earning the vacant Commonwealth heavyweight title.

Itauma is now ranked No. 1 by the WBO and has a 13-0 record (11 KOs), solidifying his position as one of boxing’s greatest future stars.
