South Korean star Son Heung-min has officially completed a high-profile transfer to Los Angeles FC (LAFC) from Tottenham Hotspur, marking the end of a remarkable 10-year stint at the Premier League club.

The 33-year-old forward reportedly moves for a record-breaking $26 million (£18.7 million), the highest transfer fee in Major League Soccer (MLS) history, according to reports by ESPN and The Athletic.

Expressing his excitement about the move, Son said, “I’m incredibly proud to be joining LAFC, a club with big ambitions in one of the most iconic sports cities in the world.

“Los Angeles has such a rich history of champions, and I am here to help write the next chapter. I’m excited for this new challenge in MLS. I have come to LA to lift trophies and give everything for this club, this city, and its fans.”

The move will see Son reunite with former Spurs teammate Hugo Lloris at LAFC, who currently sit sixth in the Western Conference after 22 matches—10 points behind league leaders San Diego, but with three games in hand.

    A Legacy at Spurs

Son leaves Tottenham as one of the most iconic figures in the club’s history, having made 454 appearances and scored 173 goals. His final act in a Spurs shirt was captaining the team to Europa League glory last season, ending their 17-year wait for a major trophy.

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy paid tribute to the departing captain, “Sonny is one of the greatest players to ever wear the famous Lilywhite shirt and he has been a joy to watch over the past decade.

“Not only is he a wonderfully gifted footballer, but he’s also an incredible human being who has touched hearts and inspired people throughout the club and all over the world.

“Sonny has given so much to this club, both on and off the pitch, and for that we are forever grateful. We wish him all the best for the future, and he will always be welcome back at the club as a beloved and cherished member of our Spurs family.”

Son’s move adds another marquee name to MLS in what’s shaping up to be a transformative period for the league, with LAFC eager to build on their recent successes and challenge for silverware once again.
