The Federal Fire Service (FFS) says it saved property worth over ₦319.5 billion and rescued 162 people across Nigeria in the first quarter of 2025, thanks to faster response times and strengthened inter-agency efforts.

Releasing its Q1 operational report at the National Orientation Agency in Abuja on Monday, the Service highlighted major improvements in its emergency response capacity.

Inferno outbreaks dropped slightly to 544 nationwide, with urban response times slashed from 15 to 10 minutes — a significant leap in efficiency.

“These gains reflect recent upgrades in infrastructure, training, and strategic collaboration,” the document noted.

Between January and July 2025, the FFS said it made notable progress in its mission to safeguard lives and property. Key highlights include:

    • Remodelling of the National Fire Academy: The ongoing upgrade aims to deliver world-class facilities and modernise training for fire officers nationwide.
    • Tackling highway Inferno hazards: Working closely with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the FFS deployed fire engines along high-risk roads and enforced fire extinguisher integrity checks.
    • Petroleum sector partnership: Renewed collaboration with the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) is driving stricter safety compliance among fuel tanker operators.
    • Leadership development: The Service held its first-ever Chief Superintendent Development Course (CDC) for 106 officers. Now approved as a promotion prerequisite, the CDC is set to raise leadership standards within the ranks.

“The Service remains committed to raising fire safety standards, deepening agency coordination, and delivering a faster, more professional emergency response nationwide,” the statement concluded.
