The Medical Guild, the body representing doctors employed by the Lagos State Government, has strongly criticised the recent deductions made from their July 2025 salaries, labelling the move as “clandestine, hostile, and illegal.”

In a statement released on Wednesday and signed by the Guild’s Secretary, Dr. Adekunle Akinade, the doctors expressed shock and disappointment over the deductions, which they say were implemented without prior notice or justification.

“The Lagos State Medical Guild has lamented the deduction in our July salary. The government’s action has breached the trust built over time between doctors and state authorities.

With this singular action from the government, the red line has been crossed,” Akinade stated.

According to the Guild, the deductions were allegedly connected to a retroactive “miscalculation” that the government is now attempting to adjust without consulting the affected workers.

Emphasising the need for transparency and dialogue, the Guild stressed that any financial correction must follow due process.

“The officers’ committee had kept faith with assurances from government quarters that a meeting would be held to discuss the governor’s approval on the matter.

We consider this sudden deduction a breach of confidence and protocol,” Akinade added.

In response to the development, the Medical Guild has scheduled a Representative Council meeting for Friday to discuss the issue and consider a course of action.

“We urge our members to remain calm. As always, the Guild is committed to protecting their welfare and will leave no stone unturned in resolving this provocation,” the statement further read.

The Guild has previously engaged with the Lagos State Government on various welfare issues, such as hazard allowances and working conditions. The recent salary cut, however, has reignited tensions over the treatment of healthcare workers in the state.

As at the time of this report, the Lagos State Government has not issued an official response to the allegations raised by the Medical Guild.
