Shaudo Alku, a top associate of the notorious terrorist kingpin Bello Turji, has been confirmed dead following a precision airstrike by the Nigerian military.

The air assault, executed by the Air Component of Operation Fagge Yama, targeted a terrorist hideout near Tunfa Primary School in Isa Local Government Area of Sokoto State on Sunday.

Military authorities stated that Alku, a crucial figure in coordinating cross-border terrorist logistics, was killed alongside several other fighters and suspected high-ranking commanders.

Intelligence revealed that Alku had crossed into Nigeria from Niger Republic to attend a secret strategic meeting organized by Turji’s network.

A military source, who requested anonymity, said, “Surveillance and actionable intelligence enabled the Nigerian military to pinpoint the gathering, prompting a swift and decisive air assault that neutralised multiple targets.

“This operation marks a significant step in dismantling the command structure of terrorist groups operating across the North West.

“Alku was not just a foot soldier. He was deeply involved in arms procurement and coordination of cross-border insurgent activity.”

The Nigerian Army described the operation’s success as evidence of its commitment to eradicating terrorism and restoring peace in Sokoto, Zamfara, and Katsina States. It added that mop-up operations were ongoing and that efforts to track down fleeing terrorists were underway.

Bello Turji, regarded as one of the most dangerous and elusive bandit leaders in the region, is known for orchestrating mass abductions, killings, and attacks on rural communities. His operations span across state and national borders, often complicating counterterrorism efforts.

Security analysts believe that Alku’s elimination will significantly weaken Turji’s logistical and operational capacity.

“This is a big win, no doubt.

“But dismantling terrorist networks requires sustained pressure and coordination with neighbouring countries, especially Niger and Chad,” said Dr. Yusuf Anka, a conflict and security analyst based in Sokoto.

Residents of Isa LGA have expressed optimism over the military action.

“We heard the explosions and later saw helicopters. It gave us hope that the government has not forgotten us,” said a local resident, who preferred to remain anonymous for security reasons.

The airstrike is the latest in a wave of intensified aerial offensives under Operation Fagge Yama, a renewed military campaign aimed at eliminating terrorist threats in Nigeria’s troubled North West.

The military has promised to release more information, including casualty figures and intelligence breakthroughs, as operations progress.
