Monday Okpebholo, Governor of Edo State, has stated that he will consult with his Kano State counterpart, Governor Abba Yusuf, to determine financial compensation for the families of the hunters slain by members of a vigilante group in Uromi.
Okpebholo, speaking through his press secretary, Fred Itrua, on Friday, stated that the two states’ governments will reach an agreement, which would then be made public.
Receiving the delegation on Thursday, Okpebholo said that the federal administration, in partnership with the state administration, had established a fact-finding commission to investigate the circumstances behind the recent killings.
The governor stated that President Bola Tinubu was dissatisfied with what occurred in Uromi and that he (Tinubu) was resolved to make the state and nation safe for everyone to live and conduct business.
He said, “I can’t say what the financial compensation will be. The Kano State Government delegation arrived in Benin on Thursday and submitted a report that only the Edo State governor has seen.
“What I think will happen is that the governor will contact the Kano State governor on what financial compensation would go to the family of the deceased. What is clear is that an agreement will be reached, and it will be made public.”
He said the recommendations of the Kano State Government would be looked into, adding that Yusuf would be contacted on the decision to be made.
