After months of delays, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members may finally have cause for relief, as the Federal Government pledged to clear the backlog of their increased N77,000 monthly allowance.

The allowance was raised from N33,000 to N77,000 in September 2024, yet despite repeated assurances and public outcry, the new rate remains unimplemented.

However, the government on Monday has now confirmed that both current corps members and those who served when the increment was announced will receive backdated payments.

The Minister of Youth Development Ayodele Olawande gave this assurance when he was featured on Channels TV.

“You saw the new DG saying that you will get it, and they’re asking him a question ‘What about those that are going out now, are they going to receive it [backlog]?’ He said ‘We have your details’,” the minister said.

“The backlog, we will work on it and make sure it is paid. It may not be immediate but it will happen,” Olawande assured.
