The Rivers State House of Assembly has adjourned its sittings indefinitely.
On Friday, the Speaker, Martin Amaewhule, presided over plenary in Port Harcourt and decided to adjourn legislative duties indefinitely.
The incident comes just hours after the State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, informed the Speaker of his intention to visit the House to present the 2025 Appropriation Bill for consideration and approval.
In a letter dated March 13 and written to Speaker Martin Amaewhule, the governor stated that he expects to propose the budget on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, or any other day in March that the House deems appropriate.
Fubara stated that his decision is in accordance with the Supreme Court ruling and in response to MPs’ call for him to re-present the budget.
He recalled the unpleasant experience of visiting the Rivers Assembly Quarters with his entourage, where the parliamentarians were temporarily sitting to deliver the budget, but being denied admission to the complex.
