As political forces begin to align ahead of the 2027 Lagos gubernatorial race, Dr. Iyoha Darlington, a former governorship candidate and Senior Special Assistant to former Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki, has stirred significant attention with his endorsement of Seyi Tinubu, the son of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Darlington, however, hinted at instituting a potential legal action should Seyi decline what he calls a “call to duty.”

Expressing his strong conviction and decision to support Seyi Tinubu in an article seen by Chronicle NG, Darlington praised the Tinubu family’s contributions to Lagos’ growth and described the president’s son as a capable leader who can sustain the progress achieved in the state.

“It is time aged brigades with vaulting ambition gave way to young men with vision to regenerate Nigeria,” he wrote, emphasizing Seyi’s qualifications and potential.

Darlington highlighted Seyi’s track record, notably his philanthropic efforts through the Noella Foundation, which reportedly secured jobs for 10,000 Nigerians in April. He argued that Lagosians would do themselves a “grave injustice” by not supporting the younger Tinubu.

Describing Seyi as a “detribalized Nigerian” with a “rare gift of humility,” Darlington pointed out the young leader’s decision to marry from eastern Nigeria and his commitment to social and economic reforms.

“This young man reaches out to the less privileged and treats the less privileged as his kith and kin,” he stated.

In a bold declaration, Darlington asserted, “It is a call to duty which he cannot shy away from. This is a clarion call for which he may face legal action by all true progressives, and I should he declines.”

The endorsement has sparked debate, with some viewing it as a strategic push for continuity in Lagos’ governance and others criticizing it as a calculated move to entrench political dynasty.

As the race for Lagos State begins to heat up, all eyes will be on Seyi Tinubu to see whether he will heed the call or risk the legal threats from Darlington and his supporters.
