Isak’s header sinks Arsenal as Newcastle earn vital win

Arsenal’s struggles in the Premier League continued with a 1-0 loss to Newcastle United at St. James’ Park, extending their winless streak to three matches.

Newcastle entered the match on the back of a mixed start to the season, having won, drawn, and lost three times in their first nine Premier League games.

However, after a morale-boosting midweek victory over Chelsea that secured them a spot in the EFL Cup quarter-finals, the Magpies were eager to capitalize on Arsenal’s recent dip in form.

The hosts got off to a flying start, opening the scoring within the first 15 minutes. Anthony Gordon whipped in a precise cross, and Alexander Isak rose to meet it with a powerful header past Arsenal’s goalkeeper, David Raya.

Despite the early blow, the Gunners struggled to find momentum in the first half, missing key midfielder Martin Ødegaard.

Bukayo Saka came close with a header that narrowly missed the target, and Lewis Hall’s timely block denied Newcastle a second, as the Magpies comfortably held their lead into halftime.

The second half saw Arsenal maintain possession but struggle to break down Newcastle’s solid defense.

In contrast, the Magpies looked the more dangerous side, nearly doubling their lead when Joe Willock sent a shot over the bar and Raya was forced to save another attempt from Isak.

In an attempt to spark a comeback, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta introduced 17-year-old Ethan Nwaneri, but the youngster’s inclusion did little to shift the game’s momentum.

Eddie Howe’s team ultimately cruised to a composed victory over one of the league’s title contenders, ending their own six-game winless streak in the Premier League.

Meanwhile, the loss deals a blow to Arsenal’s title aspirations, as rivals Manchester City and Liverpool now have the opportunity to extend their leads over the Gunners.
