The national grid, Nigeria’s primary source of electricity, collapsed again on Saturday morning for the third time within one week, causing heated reactions from Nigerians.

Chronicle NG reports that blackouts were reported in the nation’s capital, Abuja, Lagos, and other states in the country, and there is no official reaction yet from the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).

Chronicle NG had on Wednesday reported that the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) announced that supply had been restored to the Abuja axis and other major distribution load centres nationwide after the national grid collapsed on Monday.

Also, Chronicle NG reported on Monday that the national grid collapsed, triggering a nationwide blackout as distribution companies declared a lack of supply to their customers.

TCN also confirmed the development, stating that the national grid experienced a partial disturbance on Monday, 14th October 2024, at about 6:48 pm.

Describing it as ”a recurrent decimal,” Nigerians lamented over how often the national grid has collapsed in the span of one week.

They urged the President Bola Tinubu-led administration to bring to an end the continuous disruption of the supply of electricity in the country.

Chronicle NG highlights below the reactions of Nigerians to the collapse of the national grid for the third time in one week.

Eric Esiomeme, ”The National Grid has collapsed for the third time in one week. This is evidence that the whole Band A initiative has failed. It is time for Adelabu to immediately reverse the Band classification policy and for @NERCNG to direct the distribution companies to downgrade all customers to Band B, pending when a long-term solution can be adopted for the national greed/grid.”

Azam Choudhry, ”It sounds like there’s been another issue with the national power grid. Blackouts can be really frustrating, especially if they happen frequently. Is there any specific details about the cause or duration of the blackout that you’d like to share more about?”

Amaka Ann, ”Now that fuel is very expensive, how can we survive all this? Imagine someone selling frozen chicken or fish.”

Zoe Adeola, ”The cabals are at work again, and until the government goes hard on the cabals that have been profiting from this power issue for years, the national grid will soon be collapsing daily.”

    D. Olawale, ”Third collapse in one week? It’s like the national grid is now on a weekly subscription to failure. We deserve better than this endless cycle of darkness—how do we build a nation when even electricity can’t be trusted?”

Abubakar Kareto, ”Our national grid has experienced three collapses in a single week, highlighting the need for the government to address the grid’s fragility with prompt and effective solutions to mitigate this embarrassment.”

Edith Osaagi, ”The national grid suffers major setbacks now that we are paying more for light. This country is a big joke.”

Bee Coppervoiz, ”There’s a trend regarding power situation in Nigeria. Whenever there is rejoicing over stable supply the following week, there will be grid collapse. I think that there are people who are enemies of light sabotaging this all-important sector. They should be smoked out.”

Sir Ted, ”It’s obvious that there are strong cabals and criminal syndicates that vowed not to see energy efficiency in this country, because I can’t fathom how steady and stable electricity has eluded a supposed giant of Africa for decades yet everybody is comfortably quiet.”
