The Ogun State Police Command arrested 41-year-old Ibrahim Aliu in Papa Olosun, Oja Odan, in the state’s Yewa North Local Government Area, for allegedly defiling his 12-year-old daughter (name withheld).
Aliu was arrested on Thursday after his estranged wife, Temitope Egbebi, filed a complaint against him with the Oja Odan Divisional Police Office.
Egbebi said that Aliu had criminal knowledge of the victim whenever she visited him over the vacations.
She told the police that she discovered this when taking the girl to the State Hospital in Ilaro for an examination and treatment of discharges from her private parts.
SP Omolola Odutola, spokesperson for the state police command, confirmed this in a statement issued on Friday.
“He defiled her since about two years ago, each time the innocent girl went to spend the holiday with him.
“The sexual assault was discovered when she took the girl to the State Hospital, Ilaro, for examination and treatment over untreated vaginal discharge that has been occurring in the little child’s reproductive organ for an unknown period.”
According to Odutola, Aliu was arrested because of the claims and confessed to the crime during interrogation.
She stated that the suspect would shortly be handed to the State Criminal Investigation Department for additional investigation and potential prosecution.
