Virgil van Dijk was sent off as the Netherlands picked up a Nations League point in Hungary.

The hosts had led through Roland Sallai’s first-half volley.

But Liverpool defender Van Dijk was dismissed following two yellow cards in the space of three minutes.

His first was for dissent and the second was for bringing down Kevin Csoboth on the wing.

The red card was Van Dijk’s first for the Netherlands and came on his 77th appearance, late in the game.

However, soon after his exit, the 10 men were level when Denzel Dumfries headed in from Cody Gakpo’s free-kick.

Before his dismissal, Van Dijk had completed 145 of his 152 passes. That was not far off the total of Hungary’s entire team, who only completed 173 passes.
