Dr. Egbetokun Elizabeth, President of the Police Officers Wives Association, has donated relief supplies worth millions of Naira to police officers’ wives who were affected by the recent flooding in Maiduguri and surrounding areas of Borno State.

During the distribution exercise on Thursday at the state police headquarters, the POWA president stated that she has been persistent since hearing the news of the tragic flooding that killed over 30 locals and displaced millions.

In her words, “Ever since I heard the devastating flood, I have not been myself; every day, I keep thinking of the officers’ wives that I heard were affected. Today I am glad; I have seen them and provided them with relief materials.”

Egbetokun, who donated 25 kg of food, a bed, soap, wrappers, and writing supplies to their children, encouraged them to start up their lives and regain their fitness.

Earlier, while hosting the president in his office, Yusufu Lawal, Commissioner of the State Police Command, pledged N1 million to support the exercise.

She thanked the POWA president for his visit, emphasising that it would go a long way towards giving the victims a sense of belonging.

Chronicle NG had reported that on September 10, 2024, Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State, witnessed devastating flooding that ravaged 70 percent of the city and caused significant destruction to public and private properties.
