A catastrophic car accident occurred on the Abuja-Kaduna expressway, killing 21 people on Thursday.

The deadly accident occurred between a trailer truck and a passenger Hummer bus travelling to Kano and Batsari in Katsina State.

According to an eyewitness, the accident occurred near a route detour, which required all motorists to drive in a single lane.

He stated that the driver of the articulated vehicle fled the scene, leaving behind his vehicle and another container truck that was blocking the busy route.

An official of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), who spoke on the condition of anonymity, reported that “three passengers survived the accident and were rushed to Umaru Musa Memorial Hospital in Sabon-Wuse town for medical attention. The remains of the victims were deposited at the hospital’s mortuary.”

“The accident is a wake-up call for all of us to be more careful on the road,” said a motorist who witnessed the accident. “We need to exercise caution and patience while plying the route.”

The FRSC and police officials have yet to confirm the occurrence.

Idris Ibrahim, the Divisional Police Officer in Charge of Tafa Division, Kagarko LG in Kaduna State, was stated to be compiling a report on the occurrence.

Our source reported that the horrific accident has resulted in a considerable buildup of traffic on the motorway, leaving cars delayed for hours.

The tragedy emphasises the importance of enhanced road safety measures and enforcement to prevent such fatalities.

The officials encouraged vehicles to be cautious and patient while travelling the route, as operations are underway to clear the wreckage and restore normal traffic flow.
