At least three people have been confirmed dead following the collapse of a building in Kofar Bai Quarters, Birnin Kudu Local Government Area of Jigawa State.

DSP Lawan Adam, the Public Relations Officer of the Jigawa State Police Command, confirmed the collapse of the building in a statement on Tuesday.

“On Tuesday, September 10, 2024, at approximately 00:05 hrs, Ahmad Isah of Kofar Bai Quarters, Birnin Kudu LGA, reported to the Birnin Kudu Division that on September 9, 2024, at around 23:50 hrs, a room in his residential house collapsed.

“Upon receiving the tragic report, a team of police officers was dispatched to the scene,” Adam said.

He mentioned that the police, in conjunction with a Good Samaritan, launched a rescue operation and were able to evacuate seven individuals from the collapsed building.

Furthermore, he disclosed that when the victims were rushed to the hospital for treatment, three were confirmed dead.

“The victims were quickly transported to Birnin Kudu General Hospital for medical attention.

“Upon arrival, the attending physician confirmed that three of the seven victims had passed away,” Adam said.

He identified the deceased as Khalifa Ahmad (13), Tijjani Ahmad (12), and Rabiu Ahmad (12), all from the same address.

According to him, the bodies were turned over to the family for Islamic burial, while the remaining four victims are still being treated.

Meanwhile, the command has apprehended three armed robbers who have been terrorising people of Dutse metropolis and Shuwarin town, Kiyawa LGAb.
