The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) has reacted to claims made by the Nigeria Police that its National President, Joe Ajaero, is linked to terrorism financing, treasonable felony, and other connected offences.

On Monday, the Nigeria Police Force summoned Joe Ajaero for questioning on charges of terrorism financing, treasonable felony, cybercrime, and other connected offences.

The invitation was sent in a letter dated August 19, 2024, and signed by ACP Adamu Muazu on behalf of the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Intelligence Response Team.

According to the letter seen by our correspondent, the police threatened to issue an arrest warrant if Ajaero did not arrive for interrogation on Tuesday (today).

When contacted by the Daily Post, the Congress spokesperson, Benson Upah, rejected the police allegations.

He questioned how any member of Congress could be involved in sponsoring terrorism while trying to eat themselves.

Upah said, “Let me tell you, we don’t even have money to eat; where is the money we are going to use to finance terrorism? I laugh!

“In this country, when we talk about people who care about sovereignty, dignity, and safety, it is us, the citizens.

“We see it as an inalienable duty and responsibility to keep this country safe for every one of us.”

Speaking on if the NLC president would be honouring the invitation, Benson said, “We are law-abiding citizens. If there is any need for our attention, we are duty-bound to honour such invitations.”
