Some teenagers protesters protesting economic hardship in Katsina set fire to a Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) truck.

They protesters also vandalised public properties estimated to be worth millions of naira.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria, the youngsters marched around the city after the first group, “Struggle for Good Governance,” ended its protests.

Buhari Hamisu, the spokesman for the NSCDC Command in Katsina, stated that their vehicle had a defect while on patrol and was unable to proceed; therefore, it was abandoned on the road.

He added that when the protesters arrived, they set the truck on fire and ran.

The demonstrators went on a spree, vandalising public property, particularly street lights, by destroying cables and other accessories.

They also caused damage to drains and culverts throughout the city and removed the rods.

Meanwhile, Alhaji Faruq Jobe, the acting governor of Katsina State, stated that the state has seen peaceful protests but not violent ones, as reported in other states.

The acting governor made the announcement during a press conference in Katsina on Thursday discussing the state’s nationwide hunger protests.

According to him, the administration is pleased that the protests did not become violent, owing to their commitment and interaction with the appropriate stakeholders.

Jobe also urged parents to counsel their children on avoiding any type of violence in the state.

As a result, he praised the state’s citizens for their orderly behaviour and encouraged them to keep up the pace.

Jobe stated that the day coincided with the state’s annual day of prayer for peace and development.

The interim governor also urged people to strengthen their prayers for peaceful coexistence in the state and around the country.
