Buhari suffers criticism over his excitement as Nigerians return to farming

Nigerians have berated Former President Muhammadu Buhari for saying he is delighted that more Nigerians have resorted to the farm to grow more food in order to lower prices and feed the nation.

Speaking to journalists shortly after joining Daura’s Emir, Dr. Faruk Umar Faruk, to observe the Eid prayer at the township Eid grounds on Sunday, the Buhari remarked, “I am wishing everyone a happy Sallah. May this special festival bring joy, prosperity, and wonderful health to everyone.

“I use this occasion to make an appeal to all citizens to make Nigeria self-reliant. Let us grow our own food. We have shown that we can do it. This is not the time to relent when we see prices going up.

“Let us buy what is produced in the country.

“The foundation of a prosperous and stable country has been laid by successive governments, and I encourage our youth, in particular, to continue to play an active role in various nation-building efforts.

“I urge the youth of the country to seek to know about the founding fathers of the nation, the important personalities of their regions, and derive inspiration from them.”

Reacting to Buhari’s statement, Nigerians berated the former Nigerian leader, with many alleging his administration inflicted untold hardship on Nigerians.

“Nigeria is suffering, and it all started with your tenure. We believed you, trusted you, and we gave you our vote. We were happy when you won, but what we got in return was utterly unfair from you ex-president, and now you gave us a successor who is also showing us different types of pepper,” Ameeraleeu stated.

In his reaction, an X user simply identified as Enteleky alleged that “Buhari liquidated Nigeria with corruption and formalised looting of the commonwealth.”

Describing Buhari as “a seasoned incarnation of evil, a bigot, and a criminal who should be in jail,” he mentioned that the former president was a “lazy general who has never achieved anything in his entire career and has never fought any single war except supervising the extermination of innocent Biafrans; his biggest nightmare.”

“I voted for you with good expectations, but you let me and others who believed in you down. Please have conscience for once now that everything is in a bad state compared to what you met, so you can go to heaven when you leave life,” Milla, another X user, stated.

Aboki Oforma, in a comment, mentioned that Buhari “should be in jail by now if the Nigerian government is working.”

He mentioned that Buhari is “the first president in Nigeria after leaving office, no appointment from ECOWAS or African Union. You have a stain in your hand. The most nepotistic and tribalistic human, you should be in jail by now.”

Other reactions to the ex-president’s statement include: Maths Punter “The same rhetoric was used all through his regime. Yet millions can’t afford a basic, balanced diet. How many of his children are on the farm now? All politicians will never make heaven. They know it; forget the deceit.”

“You cried that Nigerians should give you the privilege to lead the country because you have better plans, and Nigerians heard you and gave you the chance to lead the country, but when you got into power, you made Nigeria a laughing stock. Eight years in power, please, what did you do that Nigerians benefited from?”.

“Your bad economic policies are still hurting us, but you and Emefiele are enjoying the money you people pack in the name of ways and means: cost of money printing, crude for dollar loans, turn-around maintenance for refineries that never worked once, and many more. It’s a shame,” said Shiaaondo Washima.

“You had eight years, and what did you do with it? Keep your advice to yourself. Even as president, you could not even secure your home state. It is your legacy of failure that Tinubu is excellently building on,” said Mathias Chia.
