Controversial Nigerian social media critic Daniel Regha has criticized Tiwa Savage’s newly released movie titled Water and Garri.
The movie, which premiered on Saturday, generated mixed reactions from viewers.
The ‘Water and Garri’ movie tells the story of Aisha (Tiwa Savage), an ambitious fashion designer, as she returns to her native home after 10 years away in the U.S., following a family bereavement.
At home, things have changed—violence has escalated and tensions have been prevalent.
Commenting on the movie, the social media critic stated that Tiwa Savage’s new movie “Water and Garri” is a close 1.5/10 thanks to the cinematography; it’s boring to watch. What’s the correlation between the title and the movie itself?
“10 minutes into the film, there’s confusion with the storyline. The movie also has disappointing dialogue, specific direction, and poor acting, especially from the main actor, Andrew Bunting (Kay).”
He added that “there were lots of errors like how Tiwa was smoking in a nightgown with a bonnet cap but always sleeping without the same bonnet cap, the English to pidgin switches, the kissing/love-making scene where both actors just went in without unlocking the door, meaning Aisha doesn’t lock her door when going out?”
“In addition, there were too many unnecessary scenes, like the restaurant scenes, the Okada gang scene at the 34th minute, and the flashbacks, which add no value to the movie (aside from Mide’s death scene).”
Regha also added that “the movie lacks realism considering how policemen were portrayed unrealistically.
“Lastly, unless there’s a sequel, which I hope not, there are so many loose ends in the film, and I fail to see the moral story or lesson being conveyed. No offense.”
