Maryam Hassan, the student of the Lead British International School who was caught on camera bullying her fellow student Namtira, has apologised.

In a video received by our correspondent in Abuja, she conveyed her “sincere apologies” and stated that she wishes the entire situation had not occurred.

On Monday night, X user @moooyeeeee shared two videos of Namtira, a female student at the school being repeatedly slapped by other female pupils.

Since their release, the videos have enraged many users of the microblogging platform, who have criticised the act and urged school officials to investigate and punish those responsible.

One of those who reacted provided a screenshot in which it was stated that the school had been treating bullying, which it said has been recurring, with child gloves.

Speaking in the video, Maryam said, “I am very sorry for what I did to Namtira. I am also apologising to you all out there. I am sincerely sorry. I wish it never happened.”

In a public statement, the school’s administration stated that an inquiry into the incident had begun.

In a statement issued by the Head of School, Abraham Ogunkanmbi, LBIS stated that the school has launched an investigation and recruited a specialised team to conduct a ‘thorough probe’ into the situation.

Mr. Ogunakanmbi stated that the team is now gathering information, including a study of camera footage and interviews with witnesses, to determine the entire magnitude of the occurrence and the immediate and remote causes.

He also stated that the school has contacted the families of both the culprits and the victims to provide them with therapy and disciplinary measures if needed.
