A Sokoto cleric reportedly led Eid-el-Fitri prayers on Tuesday, contrary to the Sultan of Sokoto’s, Sa’ad Abubakar order.
The Sultan ordered the observation of Eid-el-Fitri on Wednesday, Chronicle NG reported.
The statement confirmed that the council has acknowledged the report following the absence of the crescent moon and officially designated Wednesday as the commencement of Shawwal 1445AH, as stated in a press release in Sokoto on Monday evening.
The statement reads, “His Eminence, the Sultan felicitates the Nigerian Muslim Ummah and wishes them Allah’s guidance and blessings.
“The Sultan, while urging the Muslim Ummah to continue to pray for peace, progress, and the development of the country, also wishes all Muslims a happy Eid-el-Fitri.”
In a social media post on “X,” Nigeria stories wrote, “Breaking: Sokoto cleric defies Sultan of Sokoto directive, leads Eid-il-Fitr prayers today.”
In reaction to the Nigeria story post by Collins Opara, he commented, “Disobeying the orders of the Sultan, especially during a religious event like Eid-El-Fitr, is a serious matter.”
He added, “It shows a lack of respect for authority and unity within the community.”
Falaq Amin observed that “no matter how odd a person decides to be, they will still have followers.”
Fola Isah Kudu commented, “It’s the Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H.) who said, Follow your leaders no matter what; if he is right or wrong in your opinion, follow. Allah will judge him if he makes a bad decision for you and bless you for respecting your leader’s orders. The religion is actually simple.”
