The Reno Omokri, a former aide to ex-president Goodluck Jonathan, has called on Christians to join Muslims in observing the Ramadan fast.

Omokri made the call in a statement on X on Wednesday.

Noting that joining the Ramadan fast “will not make you less Christian or Jewish,” Omokri stated that “there is only one God.”

He also said, “Just as God is one, we ought to do anything that will bring us together as one under God without compromising our core beliefs.”

During the entire month of Ramadan, Muslims are obligated to fast every day from dawn to sunset.

Fasting requires abstinence from sex, food, drinking, and smoking. Fasting during the month of Ramadan was made obligatory (wājib) during the month of Sha’ban, in the second year after the Muslims migrated from Mecca to Medina. Fasting for the month of Ramadan is one of the Five Pillars of Islam.

Omokri’s statement reads, ”Even as a Christian, you can look forward to Ramadan and fast with your Muslim friends, family, neighbors, and colleagues. Don’t you invite them to your church programs?

“Don’t some of them celebrate holidays that are marked by some Christian denominations? Did it make those who did it less Muslim? Likewise, your fasting with them during Ramadan will not make you less Christian or Jewish.

“There is only one God. We only have disagreements on the mode of worshipping Him. But we do not have quarrels over the fact that there is only one Creator, God.

“Just as God is one, we ought to do anything that will bring us together as one under God without compromising our core beliefs. And Ramadan is an opportunity to do so.

“Because, whether Judaism, Christianity, or Islam, there is no Abrahamic religion that does not have fasting as a core religious practice.

“Fast and pray to God through Moses, if you are a Jew, through Yeshua Hamasiach, if you are a Christian, or as the prophet of Islam did it, if you are a Muslim. Whichever prayer God accepts is acceptable to all of us.

“Ramadan Kareem to you as you fast with the Muslim Ummah.”
