Nigerians on social media have expressed their disappointment in former Super Eagles winger and assistant manager Emmanuel Amuneke, over his choice of whom he thinks will win the CAF player of the year award among the trio of Victor Osimhen, Mohammed Salah, and Achraf Hakimi.

In a viral video seen by Chronicle NG posted on X, formerly Twitter, by a football enthusiast, Yimzy, Amuneke in company of other African football legends was seen picking the Egyptian winger over his fellow compatriot.

Reacting to the choice of the former Barcelona winger, X user #Obidient posted, “Some Nigerians and not being happy with their countryman’s success. Last time nkwocha and one Nigerian journalist voted against oshoala”

Another X user, Kelechi said, “Hmmm that’s so unpatriotic of him Victor Osimhen got the best season.”

Keeping his optimism under control, Mayor of Lafia in his opinion said, “Na we Dey do ourselves So I won’t be surprised if he doesn’t win the award.”

However, @Nwaebeprecious wonders why Nigerians will attack the former Rwandan National team coach for sharing his personal opinion.

“We Africans likes sentiments too much. Everybody have the rights to his opinion and choices. I see nothing wrong with what Emmanuel did, he made his choice and that’s it.” he posted

In same vain, Kingsley Ekanem said, “Life is a choice, allow people make their own choices.”

Recall that Osimhen rose to prominence under the tutelage of Amuneke at the 2015 edition of FIFA  U-17 world cup championship held in Chile.

Nigeria was crowned champions of the tournament with Osimhen winning the golden boot after scoring 10 goals in 7 games.
